Ruth Mohrmann

Ruth-Elisabeth Mohrmann (* as Ruth-Elisabeth Bierwirth on December 20, 1945 in Ilsede ; † December 29, 2015 in Münster ) was a German folklorist .

Career

Ruth-Elisabeth Mohrmann (née Bierwirth) studied folklore, history and German at the Universities of Marburg / Lahn, Kiel and Munich from 1965 to 1974. In 1975, with a thesis on popular life in Wilster in the 16th and 17th centuries at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, she was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 1976 to 1977 she was a publisher's editor at Kallmeyer Verlag in Wolfenbüttel , from 1976 to 1986 she was a freelance researcher in the project “Diffusion of urban-bourgeois culture from the 17th to the 20th century” in the Collaborative Research Center 164 “Comparative historical urban research” at the Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster , 1979 to 1986 lecturer at the seminar for folklore at the University of Münster, 1981 to 1984 editorial assistant for the journal “ Ethnologia Europaea ”. 1986 followed the habilitation for the subject folklore at the University of Münster, the habilitation thesis dealt with the everyday world in the state of Braunschweig (urban and rural living culture from the 16th to the early 20th century), followed by the appointment of professor (temporary) of the University of Münster. In 1987 she was a substitute professor at the Folklore Seminar at Kiel University. From 1988 to 1993 Mohrmann was professor of folklore at the University of Bayreuth and the first university women's representative. From 1993 to 2011 she was a professor at the Department of Folklore / European Ethnology at the University of Münster, and at the same time managing director of the Seminar for Folklore / European Ethnology at the University of Münster. From 1994 to 1998 she was Vice Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs at the University of Münster. In this capacity, she initiated a series of commemorative events at the end of the war in 1945, which she subsequently published.

From 1993 to 2014 Ruth Mohrmann was Günter Wiegelmann's successor and chairwoman of the Folklore Commission for Westphalia , of which she was elected in 1980. In 1983 she was also elected a member of the Folklore Commission for Lower Saxony , and in 1997 a member of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen . From 1991 to 1997 she was a member of the main committee of the German Society for Folklore . From 1993 to 2010 member of the Scientific Advisory Board "Folklore" of the Institute for Scientific Film (IWF) in Göttingen, 1997 to 2005 member of the Advisory Board of the IWF Göttingen.

Since 2009 she has been chairwoman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum , Nuremberg, and since 2009 a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Museumsdorf Cloppenburg - Lower Saxony Open Air Museum . as well as the advisory board for the project "Man and the environment. Pilot project for networking research, museological documentation and didactics" in the museum village of Cloppenburg. From 2005 to 2010 she was a member of the board of trustees of the Institute for Reality Studies of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age in Krems / Austria ( Austrian Academy of Sciences ). Since 1993 she was chairwoman of the Westphalian Association for Folklore e. V. since 2011 chairwoman of the "Society for Folklore Münster eV".

Ruth-E. Mohrmann has been co-editor of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Zeitschrift für Volkskunde since 1993 , member of the editorial board of the journal "Ethnologia Europaea - Journal of European Ethnology" from 1996 to 2013, since 2003 co-editor of the "Contributions to Urban History and Urbanization Research".
