Günter Wiegelmann (born January 31, 1928 in Essen ; † October 2, 2008 ) was a German folklorist .

Career

Wiegelmann first studied geography , German and folklore at the University of Cologne and graduated in 1954 with the state examination. From 1955 to 1966 he was an assistant at the Atlas of German Folklore in Frankfurt and Bonn . In 1957 he received his doctorate from Cologne University with the dissertation Natural Favor and Unfavor in the Change of Rhenish Agricultural Landscapes. Wiegelmann published on the folk culture of Central and Northern Europe , the history of science , cultural space research , food research as well as theories and methods .

In 2012, the Society for Folklore Münster eV awarded the Günter Wiegelmann Prize, endowed with € 800, for the first time for excellent dissertations, master's or master's theses. The first prize winner is folklorist Frederik Grundmeier .
