Ryan Kraft (born November 7, 1975 in Bottineau , North Dakota ) is an American ice hockey player . In the National Hockey League he was active for the San Jose Sharks .
Career
Kraft first played from 1994 to 1998 at the University of Minnesota in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There he won the WCHA championship at the end of the 1995/96 season. After the San Jose Sharks had already selected him in the eighth round in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in 194th place, the American moved after his training to the organization of the franchise from California , where he first played in the East Coast Hockey League for the Richmond Renegades stood on the ice.
For the next three years, the center played exclusively in the minor leagues with the San Joses farm team , the Kentucky Thoroughblades from the International Hockey League and the Cleveland Barons from the American Hockey League . After his first full season in the American Hockey League in 2000/01, Kraft was honored with the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award for the best rookie of the season and was also appointed to the Second All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team of the AHL. As a result, the attacker was nominated for the squad of the US national team at the 2001 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship and played his first seven NHL games for the San Jose Sharks in the 2002/03 season . After the season expired Krafts contract and he signed a new contract with the New York Islanders in the summer of 2003 , which let him play exclusively in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers .
For the 2005/06 season , the center forward moved to Europe in the German Ice Hockey League to the Kassel Huskies . Despite the relegation of the huskies to the 2nd Bundesliga , Kraft stayed with the North Hesse and celebrated with them the promotion to the DEL after two years.
