Ryan Russell (born May 2, 1987 in Caroline , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with Leksands IF from Svenska Hockeyligan until April 2015 .
Career
The preferred acting on the position of the center Ryan Russell initially played from 2003 to 2007 with the Kootenay Ice in the Canadian top junior league Western Hockey League . There he was in his last two seasons, the seasons 2005/06 and 2006/07 , each team-internal second-best scorer. He had previously been selected by the New York Rangers in the seventh round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 211th position . In total, he completed 296 WHL games in the course of his junior career, in which Russell scored 246 points scorer.
Since he could not agree on an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers , the Canadian was transferred to the Montréal Canadiens in late May 2007 . This put him exclusively with their AHL - Farm Team Hamilton Bulldogs and the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL one. In the jersey of the Cincinnati Cyclones, the left-shooter won the Kelly Cup in the 2007/08 season . The striker then spent three seasons with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League, with whom he failed twice in the Conference Finals in the finals.
In July 2011 Russell was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Michael Blunden . During the 2011/12 season he made his debut for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League and made a total of 42 appearances in the top division of North America. After he was used exclusively for the Springfield Falcons farm team in the American Hockey League the following year , the Canadian decided to move to Europe in the summer of 2013 and joined Leksands IF from the Svenska Hockeyligan . Following the 2014/15 season , he was relegated with the team and has been without a club since April 2015.
