Career
Michael Blunden began his career as a hockey player with the Erie Otters , for whom he was active in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey League from 2002 to 2006 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 in the second round as a total of 43rd player by the Chicago Blackhawks , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2006/07 season . In his rookie year , the attacker received ten penalty minutes in nine games. The rest of the time he spent, however, with their farm team from the American Hockey League , the Norfolk Admirals . In the 2007/08 season , the right-shooter was only in one game for Chicago in the NHL on the ice and ran the rest of the season for the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.
After the 2008/09 season began with the IceHogs, he was January 10, 2009 in exchange for Adam Pineault to the Columbus Blue Jackets made. Until the end of the season, however, he was only used for their AHL farm team Syracuse Crunch . At the beginning of the 2009/10 season , the Canadian was appointed to the NHL squad of the Blue Jackets. During the season he came to 40 missions in the National Hockey League and scored four points. Also the following season he began with an assignment in the NHL, but then he was sent to the farm team for the Springfield Falcons .
On July 7, 2011, the Columbus Blue Jackets transferred him to the Montréal Canadiens in exchange for Ryan Russell . There Blunden mainly played for the Hamilton Bulldogs , the Canadiens' farm team, before he left the franchise after three years and joined the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2014 . There, too, he is mainly used in the AHL at the Syracuse Crunch . His contract, which expired after the 2015/16 season, was not renewed, so he joined the Ottawa Senators as a free agent in July 2016 .
As a result, Blunden was active in Ottawa for two years before he decided to move to Europe for the first time and signed a contract with HC Bozen in the Austrian ice hockey league .
In April 2019, Blunden signed a contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League .
