Colby Nicky Robak (born April 24, 1990 in Gilbert Plains , Manitoba ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) since November 2019 and plays there in the position of defender .
Career
Robak spent his junior years between 2006 and 2010 with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League . The defender played 280 games for the team in the period of four years and also represented it in the 2010 Memorial Cup , which was hosted by the Wheat Kings. He was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the second round in 46th position by the Florida Panthers from the National Hockey League .
After completing his junior career, Robak was signed by the Panthers in May 2010. He spent his first season as a professional with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League . The following three seasons until 2014, the defender then ran mainly for Florida's new cooperation partner San Antonio Rampage in the AHL. During this time he also played 35 games for the Panthers in the NHL, after his contract was extended by two years in the summer of 2013. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Robak was part of the Florida squad for the time being, before he was given to the Anaheim Ducks in December 2014 in exchange for Jesse Blacker and a six- round vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft . The defensive player only played five games for the Ducks, as he was soon sent to the AHL to the Norfolk Admirals . His expiring contract was not extended in the summer.
Since he subsequently received no new offer from an NHL club, his ex-club Rochester Americans took the Canadian under contract for the 2015/16 season . The 2016/17 season began Robak with league rival Stockton Heat , who had offered him a trial contract. Despite five assists in six games, the Heat refrained from a long-term commitment, whereupon the Utica Comets secured his services in November 2016. There he ended the season and finally signed an AHL contract with the Stockton Heat in October 2017.
After a year in Stockton, the Canadian moved to Europe for the first time in his career, where he spent the 2018/19 season at Vaasan Sport in the Finnish Liiga . In November 2019, the defender received a contract with Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League , which was prematurely extended by two years in January 2020.

At the international level, Robak represented a home country at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2008 in Kazan, Russia . He won the gold medal with the maple leaves , to which he contributed one assist in seven tournament games.
