The Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment (LaNU) in its current form was established by law on January 1, 1998. It pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes.

The foundation bodies are the foundation council and the foundation director (board of directors). The Saxon State Ministry for Environment and Agriculture exercises legal supervision of the foundation . A financial advisory board advises the foundation.

The Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment is a foundation under public law with its seat in the state capital Dresden in the historical Eschebach factory . On January 1, 2014, the state foundation was to relocate its headquarters to Grillenburg in the Tharandt Forest , where the LaNU academy was already housed in the hunting lodge from 2004 to 2008 , which was postponed to January 1, 2017 but has not yet been carried out. The former forest school is currently planned to be located in Grillenburg .

The Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment also promotes efforts and measures for the protection, preservation and care of nature and landscape as the natural basis of all life as well as the general understanding of the concerns of nature and environmental protection in science, education and the public. For example, the foundation owns an ecological vineyard on the Burgberg in Meißen , which it cultivates and researches together with students from the Sankt Afra high school. The Foundation has received the Voluntary Ecological Year and member of the Association of German Foundations eV

Comeback for salmon and lynx

In 2004 the 45-minute nature documentary "Comeback for salmon and lynx" was completed on behalf of the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment. The film shows landscape images and aims to describe the complex and centuries-old coexistence between man and nature in the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland national park region , one of the most important natural areas in Germany.

The film premiered on July 6, 2004 at the film nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden . A version was then shown in the “Nature Reporter” series on 3SAT and was also nominated for the “Environmental Communication Award” in this context. The DVD , which contains 6 languages, is available from the National Park Center.

National Park Center

The Saxon Switzerland National Park Center (NLPZ) in Bad Schandau was opened in October 2001. A modern visitor center was created with the help of funding from the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU) and the Free State of Saxony .

In the Saxon Switzerland National Park Center, visitors can get information, education and inspiration about the National Park and related nature conservation issues.

Communicating the concept of nature conservation, supporting regional, sustainable development and cross-border cooperation with the Czech Republic are central concerns of the house.

Conservation Fund

As a dedicated special fund, the nature conservation fund is the central funding instrument of the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment. The funds of the fund support efforts and measures to protect, preserve and maintain nature and the landscape . His work can essentially be divided into three areas:
