history

When the offices were established in the Prussian province of Westphalia, Südkamen belonged to the Kamen office, then to the Unna-Kamen office in the Hamm district . On the occasion of the city of Hamm on April 1, 1901, the district became the district of Hamm. After an area expansion in 1929, this was renamed the Unna district in October 1930 . On January 1, 1968, the previous communities of Derne, Heeren-Werve, Methler, Rottum and Südkamen were merged with the city of Kamen. The previous Unna-Kamen office was dissolved.

There is a municipal primary school in Südkamen. It's the south school. It has another building in the center of the city that used to house the Catholic Joseph School. This outbuilding is now known as the Saint Joseph Branch . The Kamen Comprehensive School and the Fridtjof Nansen Realschule are also located in Südkamen.
