The SELEX Sistemi Integrati SpA was an Italian defense and electronics company Finmeccanica group. It mainly produced air traffic control systems and sensors for military and civil purposes.

On January 1, 2013, SELEX Sistemi Integrati and SELEX Galileo merged with other SELEX subsidiaries of Finmeccanica in Selex Electronic Systems or Selex ES for short , the latter then in Leonardo-Finmeccanica on January 1, 2016 .

history

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has been active under various names in more than 150 countries for over 50 years.

In 1952, Finmeccanica and Raytheon founded Microlambda in Fusaro near Naples , which built radars under license . In 1956 the electronics company SINDEL was founded in Rome with funds from the energy supplier Edison , to which a number of Microlambda engineers switched. In 1960 Finmeccanica (40%), Raytheon (40%) and Edison (20%) founded the company Selenia through the merger of Microlambda and SINDEL. In the following decades Selenia established itself on the world market as a manufacturer of radar systems and other sensors for armed forces.

In 1990 Selenia merged with Aeritalia to form the then leading Italian aerospace and defense group Alenia . A few years later, the aerospace activities were pooled at Alenia Aerospazio, from which Alenia Aeronautica and Thales Alenia Space emerged . The remaining armaments and electronics activities went to Alenia Difesa. In 1998, Alenia Difesa and the British GEC-Marconi became the Anglo-Italian company Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS). In 2005, the parent companies Finmeccanica and BAE Systems decided to dissolve the joint venture, which was subsequently largely taken over by Finmeccanica. From AMS parts in Great Britain and Italy, SELEX companies emerged, including SELEX Sistemi Integrati.

Due to this historical development, a number of products offered or maintained by SELEX Sistemi Integrati or Selex ES until 2015 had older company names such as Selenia, Alenia or Alenia Marconi Systems. This is also the case from time to time with the RAT 31DL and RAT 31SL radars, for example . These former SELEX products have been offered or serviced directly by Leonardo since January 1, 2016 .
