The built 2002 Swedish electric multiple units of the type SJ X32K were a long-distance version of the previously built three-car unit train type X31K , who as Öresundståg is known.

design type

The X32 was equipped with three seats across the width of the train in 1st class, had more comfortable seats in 2nd class in the reservable part of the train, more toilets, luggage racks and a kitchenette. From the outside, you could tell the difference between the series by the fact that the X32 had two red stripes under the windows and a dark blue roof. The vehicles are equipped with sockets on the seats, and the intermediate car has low-floor entry areas. The air-sprung carriages have an aluminum frame, the driver's desk is connected to the transition door and can be folded away in the train.

With the multiple control a maximum of five multiple units can be operated as multiple units. The individual multiple units have the following order: railcar 43xx + intermediate car 47xx + railcar 45xx. The code letter K means that the multiple units are adapted for traffic to and in Denmark. The trains ran on the Västkustbana between Malmö and Helsingborg / Ängelholm until 2007 . Before that, until around 2006, the X32 trains were in use on the Kust till kust-bana from Gothenburg to Kalmar / Karlskrona. Thereafter, multiple units of the type Bombardier Regina and later locomotive-hauled trains ran there.

X32 and X31 can be coupled together. The trains between Alvesta and Emmaboda were in use in this form .

Conversion to X31 standard

An X32 train set in Karlskrona

In 2007, all X32 trains were converted to the standard of the X31 series because more X31 trains were needed on the Blekinge Kustbana after it was electrified . In addition, more trains were run across the Øresund due to the increasing number of passengers . The X32 in its original form was not accepted by the Danske Statsbaner in the Öresund traffic and was therefore not allowed to operate in Denmark . The background was formal requirements, because local trains were to run in the Helsingör - Kastrup commuter traffic .

However, the trains retained the series designation X32K because of their additional toilet .

In 2013, the trains are distributed between the two local companies Skånetrafik (4344, 4346, 4348) and Blekingetrafik (4343, 4345, 4347, 4349) and will be used from Öresundståg to Denmark .
