Kastrup is a district of the Copenhagen suburb of Tårnby in the Tårnby municipality and at the same time the capital of the parish of Kastrup Sogn , which has 10,037 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Located in the east of the Danish island of Amager , it is known as the location of Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport , Scandinavia 's largest airport. In the east it borders on the Öresund , in the north on the Copenhagen districts Sundbyvester and Sundbyøster (together: Sundbyerne ), in the west on Tårnby and in the south on the airport.

history

Industry soon settled on the Öresund coast. To transport limestone from the opposite island of Saltholm , a port was built for Kastrupværk in 1749 . The lime works, built in 1749–1754, housed a brewery in the 19th century, which is why it is now called Bryggergården ( Brewery ). In the 19th century, further industrial plants were built, which were connected to the railway network with the Amagerbanen in 1907 . One of the factories was Kastrup Glasværk , founded in 1847 , which until 1979 produced, among other things, drinking and lamp glasses . Today Kastrup is characterized by open residential developments, in which single-family houses, terraced houses and allotments alternate.

Culture and sights

The Kastrupværk or Bryggergården is next to the airport and opened in 1925, the adjoining concession stand Flyvergrillen (1972) of the Danish cultural heritage in Kastrup.

1884 in was historicist style held Kastrup Kirke privy to the early 1970s, a bell tower was added. 1978–1985, a large marina was created north of the old industrial and fishing port , which is part of the Kastrup Strandpark , a local recreation area that connects to the Amager Strandpark in the north . In 2013, the largest show aquarium in Northern Europe, Den Blå Planet, opened south of the marina, with 53 tanks, a total capacity of 7 million liters and space for 20,000 fish and marine animals.
