The railcars of the B 81500 series , also known as BGC , are the two-force version of the autorail à grande capacité (AGC).
description
In 2002, Bombardier won the tender for the autorail à grande capacité , which will replace the previous locomotive-hauled TER . This multiple unit series is the largest single order in the history of the SNCF to date . Only the following new Régiolis and Bombardier Régio2N trains have been ordered in even larger numbers (delivery from 2013). The »Autorail à grande capacité« was procured in three other versions: as a two-system vehicle Z 27500 for 1.5 kV direct and 25 kV alternating voltage at 50 Hz (ZGC), as a diesel multiple unit X 76500 (XGC) and as a two-power and two-system version B. 82500 for 1.5 kV DC and 25 kV AC voltage with additional diesel drive (BBGC / BiBi).
The B 81500 were procured in three and four parts. 59 four-car and 126 three-car trains are in use at SNCF. The B 81500 can be used on electrified and non-electrified routes, with contact line operation only possible below 1.5 kV DC voltage. The very similar vehicles of the B 82500 series can also drive electrically in the grid with an alternating voltage of 25 kV at 50 Hz. The two direct-voltage vehicles were ordered by the regions of Aquitaine , Burgundy , Center-Val de Loire , Languedoc-Roussillon , Limousin , Midi-Pyrénées , Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur , Poitou-Charentes and Rhône-Alpes for use as TER . In these regions, only the high-speed lines have been electrified with 25 kV so far, which makes AC voltage equipment unnecessary.
