The SG Eintracht Wetzlar 1905 is a football club in the central Hessian city of Wetzlar . The first women's team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2015.

history

On July 20, 1905, the Wetzlarer Football Club was founded and in 1927 it was renamed Sportverein Wetzlar 05 . After the Second World War it got its current name.

In the seasons 1909/10 and 1910/11 and between 1917 and 1927 the club took part in the West German football championships . Outstanding in this era was the 1923/24 season , in which the relay championship was celebrated in the Lahn district. After the introduction of the Gauliga as the highest all-German league in the 1930s, the team initially played in what was then the second highest league. In the 1941/42 season , he was promoted to the first division, the Gauliga Hessen-Nassau , for a year .

After this brief episode of the first class, there followed a total of 20 years of membership in the highest Hessian league ( Hessenliga or Oberliga Hessen). This was at first the second highest, later the third highest German league. The club rose three times from the Hessen League and shortly afterwards again. For Eintracht Wetzlar, relegation in 1971 meant the beginning of an era of 36 years in the lower leagues.

It was not until the 2006/07 season that the traditional club managed to return to the Oberliga Hessen (then the fourth-highest German division). After relegation to the middle league (6th league) in 2007/08, the 2008/09 season could be concluded in 3rd place in the table. 2010 succeeded with the association league championship the promotion in the Hessenliga. There the relegation succeeded in the following season, but in 2012 the unity rose again. Due to sporting and financial problems, he was further relegated to the Gießen-Marburg regional league. At the start of the second half of the 2018/2019 season, the 1st men's team was deregistered from ongoing play.

The first women's team at Eintracht Wetzlar played in the Regionalliga Süd from 2011 to 2015 . After the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga succeeded, the women's departments split off and founded the FSV Hessen Wetzlar .
