Sabina Jeschke (born July 27, 1968 in Kungälv , Sweden) is a German professor of mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Bahn from 2017 to 2021.

Live and act

Sabina Jeschke studied physics , mathematics and computer science at the Technical University of Berlin . Her thesis came about during a research stay at the Ames Research Center of NASA in Moffett Field, California, under the direction of William J. Borucki . During her doctorate, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Mathematics at the TU Berlin and as an Assistant Professor / Instructor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA.

In 2004 she received her doctorate in computer science with distinction. Two years later, Sabina Jeschke became a junior professor for new media in mathematics and natural sciences at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2007 she took up a professorship at the Institute for IT Service Technologies at the University of Stuttgart (ITS) in the electrical engineering department and at the same time became director of the RUS data center at the University of Stuttgart. At the same time, she continued the business of the Center for Multimedia in Teaching and Research MuLF (now: innoCampus) at the Technical University of Berlin as part of a visiting professorship .

In 2009 she was appointed professor and director of the Cybernetics Lab IMA / ZLW & IfU, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University . In addition, Sabina Jeschke held an honorary professorship at the Institute for Technical Optics ITO at the University of Stuttgart from 2009 to 2010. From October 2011 to September 2016, Sabina Jeschke was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University .

The main research areas include a. Robotics and automation technology (heterogeneous and cooperative robotics, web services in robotics), traffic and mobility (autonomous and semi-autonomous traffic systems, international logistics, car2car & car2X), Internet of Things and " cyber-physical systems " ( Industry 4.0 , Semantic Web Services ), Artificial intelligence (data integration and data mining, multi-agent systems, cognitive computing ), human-machine interaction (virtual and remote laboratories, intelligent training environments), innovation research, agile organizational development (demographic change, jobs of the future) and knowledge and information management.

She is a member and reviewer in numerous committees and commissions, including a senior member of the IEEE since 2011 and a member of the "Robotics and Automation" program committee of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) since 2017. In May 2013 she became a fellow of RWTH Aachen University. In July 2014 she was honored by the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) with the award of Germany's digital minds . In September 2015, she was awarded the Golden Nikola Tesla Medal of the International Society for engineering education (IGIP) excellent. she is an alumna of studienstiftung . Together with the team Carologistics of RWTH and FH Aachen she won in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 for four consecutive years the world title in the RoboCup Logistics League.

She heads the Cybernetics Lab IMA / ZLW & IfU (as of November 2017). Sabina Jeschke has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Körber AG since May 2015, and has been Chairman of the Board of VDI Aachen since April 2012 .

In the summer semester 2017 she devotes herself to the further development of her research in the field of artificial consciousness ( English artificial / machine consciousness ) as part of a sabbatical and participates in the development of a think tank “strong artificial intelligence” at Volvo in Gothenburg .

On November 10, 2017, she was appointed to the board of Deutsche Bahn AG with effect from mid-November. There she is responsible for the area “Digitization and Technology”. After a three-year contract period, her contract was extended by the Supervisory Board on December 11, 2019 by five years until the end of 2025. From the beginning of 2020, Jeschke will also be responsible for heavy vehicle maintenance.

Jeschke is considered a good speaker and speaks German, English and Swedish fluently.
