Safari World

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Safari World ( Thai : ซาฟารี เวิลด์ ) is a private animal and amusement park in the district of Khlong Sam Wa in the northeastern border area of Bangkok . The park has claims to be the largest open zoo ( Open Zoo ) Thailand , in which a plurality of different species and hundreds of species in natural conditions can move their regions of origin adapted natural landscape free. However, some of these animals are also kept in cages or have to perform tricks for the audience. The entire facility has a size of almost one square kilometer (800,000 square meters).

history

The facility was opened on February 17, 1988 and initially had an area of 1,200 Rai for the Open Zoo and another 450 Rai for a bird park . A redesign and expansion by another 500 rai was carried out in 1989. By February 1, 1994, the private operating company had increased its capital from an initial 759,000,000 Baht to a total of 1,500,000,000 Bath and one year later (since February 16, 1995) Safari World was the first and so far only amusement park in Thailand to run in SET Index was listed on the floor of the Thai Stock Exchange.

The operating company also founded the Show event (with amusement ) Phuket FantaSea in Kamala on the island of Phuket in southern Thailand , with most of the original in Bangkok's Safari World held elephants were brought to participate in the local show to Kamala.

Attractions

In the Safari Park (Thai: สวน สัตว์ เปิด ซาฟารี ปาร์ค ) hundreds of animals from all over the world live freely in an extensive area that circularly surrounds the marine park . An approximately eight kilometer long course runs through this area, which - like on a safari or photo safari - can be traversed in about 45 minutes with your own car, but also in a coach or one of the park's own buses. Getting out is not allowed, but except in the specially secured area for lions and tigers , all animals can be viewed and photographed with the window open.

The area is divided into several different vegetation zones, which should reflect the animals their home region as authentically as possible. Some of the populations here are quite high ( marabous , pelicans and fallow deer in particular are very numerous, which suggests that no or insufficient selection is carried out). Among others live here - listed roughly by the sequence of the course: - ostriches , giraffes , colored storks , marabou, camels , rhinos , zebras , nilgai , Watusi cattle , gaur -Rinder, impala and black back -Antilopen, pelicans, wildebeest , oryx , Cranes , reindeer , fallow deer, lions, tigers, bears , peacocks and water buffalo .

Dolphin show in Safari World

In which the safari park enclosed Marine Park (Thai: มา รี น ปาร์ค ) is a zoo and amusement park - the English name is deceptive, because it is by no means an aquarium or a Aquazoo , and besides dolphins, beluga whales , Seals , amphibians and a few fish species are not kept here.

In this area you can see numerous, mainly smaller animals, reptiles and amphibians from all over the world. Public feedings take place, and on the so-called Safari Terrace you can hand-feed the giraffes living in the Open Zoo from a raised platform.

In addition, a number of show events attract the audience, which are not undisputed by our western standards of species-appropriate zoo animal husbandry . The dolphin show with dolphins and belugas is undoubtedly the park's crowd puller. Other shows with white tigers, orangutans (the so-called orangutan boxing show ), trained birds and elephants, which are probably indispensable for Thailand, are just as popular as various stunt shows. New and changed attractions are offered every year.

The facilities offered as an amusement park include, for example, the Jungle Cruise - a wild water slide through an African and Asian jungle - and a Jungle Walk , which leads the visitor through a veritable labyrinth of cages and aviaries . The park also has special offers for children and restaurants.

criticism

Orangutans living in the park are trained against species-appropriate behavior to entertain the audience on wheels, with drums or through the orangutan boxing show . In the latter attraction, the animals must wear sports pants and boxing gloves to compete against each other in the ring as Thai boxers . The actor Hannes Jaenicke made the fate of these animals and thus the park known to a wide audience through a ZDF documentary.

Within six months, elephants are trained to perform a kind of tightrope walk on a tightrope, sometimes on three legs.
