Saint-Amand is a commune Déléguée in the French commune of Saint-Amand-Villages with 2,292 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Manche in the region of Normandy . The inhabitants are called Saint-Amandais .

geography

Saint-Amand is located about twelve kilometers southeast of Saint-Lô on the River Vire . Saint-Amand is surrounded by the villages of Précorbin in the north, Lamberville in the northeast, Le Perron in the east and northeast, Placy-Montaigu in the southeast, Guilberville in the south, Giéville in the southwest, Torigni-sur-Vire in the Commune nouvelle Torigny-les- Villes and Condé-sur-Vire in the west and Saint-Jean-d'Elle with Saint-Jean-des-Baisants in the north-west.

history

The municipality was merged in 1973 with the previously independent municipalities of La Chapelle-du-Fest and Saint-Symphorien-les-Buttes . On January 1, 2017, Saint-Amand and Placy-Montaigu merged to form the new municipality of Saint-Amand-Villages. It belonged to the arrondissement of Saint-Lô and the canton of Condé-sur-Vire (until 2015: canton of Torigni-sur-Vire ).
