Saktouria ( Greek Σακτούρια ( n. Pl. ), Also Sachtouria Σαχτούρια) is a place on the south coast of the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete . He belongs to the municipality of Lambi of the municipality of Agios Vasilios in the regional district of Rethymno .

Saktouria consists of the larger, higher situated district of Ano Saktouria and the smaller, lower situated (Kato Saktouria). The entire place has 234 inhabitants (according to the 2011 census). The local community also includes the small town of Agios Pavlos and the uninhabited Paximadia Islands in the Libyan Sea .

Saktouria is located 21 kilometers southeast of Spili and 49 kilometers from Rethymno . Saktouria can be reached via the road that branches off from the main road from Spili to Agia Galini towards the south at Nea Krya Vrysi . The end of this junction is the coastal town of Agios Pavlos, 6 kilometers from Saktouria.

Saktouria was mentioned in the Venetian census of the 16th and 17th centuries. Chourmoutzis Vizantios calls the village Sachtori . In 1881 Saktouria was registered as an incorporation to the village of Melambes . In 1925 Saktouria became an independent rural community (kinotita) until it was incorporated into Lambi in 1997; In 2011 it went up with this in the new municipality of Agios Vasilios.

Saktouria got its name from the Greek word sachtouri, which describes a sailing ship with a square sail of 15 to 20 tons.
