Samanta Tīna (actually Samanta Poļakova , born March 31, 1989 in Tukums , Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a Latvian singer. She will represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam .

life and career

Start of career

In 2010 Samanta Tīna won the Latvian music show O! Kartes akadēmija , which gave her the opportunity to study for three months at the Tech Music School in London . The following year she took part in the Moldovan singing competition Golden Voices , which she also won.

In 2012 she took with 20 other candidates in the competition Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk in part. On the first day she sang "Auga, auga Rūžeņa", a Latvian folk song, and got 93 points. On the second day she sang the song "Где то далеко" and got 104 points. In the end she came in second with 197 points, with only Bobi Mojsoski from Macedonia ahead of her .

Career 2012–2017

At Eirodziesma 2012 Samanta Tīna took part together with Dāvids Kalandija. They sang "I Want You Back" in the first semi-finals and made it to the finals. In addition, Samanta Tīna took part in the second semifinals with the song "For Father", but did not reach the final. In the final on February 18, 2012, Samanta Tīna and Dāvids Kalandija took second place behind Anmary and their song "Beautiful Song".

On January 15, 2013 it was announced that Samanta Tīna would take part in Dziesma, the new title of the Latvian preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "I Need a Hero". In the final she again took second place, behind the band PeR and their song "Here We Go". In the same year she also took part in the Lithuanian preliminary round for the ESC. In a duet with Vudis she sang the song "Hey Chiki - Mama", but dropped out in the first round.

In 2014 Samanta Tīna also took part in Dziesma. With her song "Stay" she reached the finals, where she took third place in Aarzemnieki's victory with "Cake to Bake".

In the same year she also took part in the third season of Lietuvos balsas , the Lithuanian version of The Voice , where she reached the top eight.

Samanta Tīna took part in Supernova 2016 with two songs, "We Live for Love" and "The Love Is Forever". "We Live for Love" was eliminated in the first round, with "The Love Is Forever" she reached the semi-finals. After that, she voluntarily withdrew from the competition. The following year she took part in the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang "Tavo oda" with the Lithuanian singer Tadas Rimgaila, but dropped out in the first round of the competition.

Eurovision Song Contest 2020/2021

On February 8, 2020, Samanta Tīna won the Latvian Supernova preliminary for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with her song Still Breathing . She should represent Latvia in the second semifinals on May 14, 2020 in Rotterdam. However, the competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Instead, Samanta Tīna was selected internally by the Latvian broadcaster LTV for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
