San Marcello Pistoiese is a former municipality in the Italian province of Pistoia , in the Tuscany region . San Marcello Pistoiese belongs today as a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) to the municipality of San Marcello Piteglio .

geography

San Marcello Pistoiese is located at 623 m slm approx. 17 km northwest of the provincial capital Pistoia and approx. 50 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the climatic classification of Italian communities in zone E, 2,813 GG.

The most important bodies of water in the former municipal area include the Reno River , which only touches the area briefly at Pontepetri, and the Torrenti Bardalone (every 4 km in the municipality), Lima (6 of 42 km in the municipality), Limestre (every 7 km in the municipality ), Maresca (every 8 km in the municipality), Orsigna (2 of 6 km in the municipality), Verdiana (every 11 km in the municipality) and Volata (every 6 km in the municipality). history

The former municipalities of San Marcello Pistoiese and Piteglio merged on January 1, 2017 to form the new municipality of San Marcello Piteglio .

  • Pieve di San Marcello , for the first time in 1085 mentioned Pieve in the center that the Marcellus I. is dedicated. Contains frescoes from 1788 by Giuseppe Gricci and works by Agostino Ciampelli ( Invenzione della Croce ) and Gaetano Zumbo ( Ecce Homo ).

Was built by Vincenzo Douglas Scotti from 1920 to 1922 and is 212.4 meters long. This makes it one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world.
