San Pio X alla Balduina is a parish and titular church in the Trionfale district on the Piazza dell Balduine in Rome . The church was built in 1954 by Pope Pius XII. Dedicated to canonized Pope Pius X.

history

In 1956 the construction of the church on a hill began. The rectory and an auditorium in the basement, which was temporarily used as a church, were built as the first rooms. On September 28, 1957, the parish was founded by decree of Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara . The construction was a project by Alberto Ressa and the construction management was in charge of the Pontifical Work for the Preservation of the Faith and the Provision of New Churches in Rome (Pontificia Opera per la Preservazione della Fede e la provvista di nuove Chiese in Roma).

On February 16, 1964 the church was opened by Pope Paul VI. visited. Because of the liturgical reform after the Second Vatican Council , it was renovated in 1965 after only four years and adapted to the new liturgy. The old high altar , the two pulpits and the communion bench were removed and a new popular altar , as well as a tabernacle and tamburini organ, were installed. On January 31, 1993, Pope John Paul II visited the church. From 2002 new stained glass windows by Sergio Verdacchia were installed in the side chapels. In 2003 the second chapel on the left was dedicated to St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina . In 2009 a new baptismal font was blessed.
