Sandro Petraglia

Sandro Petraglia (born April 19, 1947 in Rome ) is an Italian screenwriter and film critic .

Life

Sandro Petraglia, who was born in Rome, first studied philosophy before appearing as a film critic. He has published articles in the magazines Cinema Sessanta , Rivista del Cinematografo . Sipario and in Goffredo Fofi's Ombre Rosse . Between 1974 and 1977 Petraglia wrote three monographs on the directors Pier Paolo Pasolini , Andrej Tarkowski and Nagisa Ōshima . In 1978 a study of Werner Herzog's film Everyone for himself and God against all followed .

Together with Silvano Agosti , Marco Bellocchio and Stefano Rulli , Petraglia produced the documentary None or All in 1975 . Petraglia then directed several episodes of the film history television series La macchina cinema in 1979 , but increasingly concentrated on writing scripts. His first work was an adaptation of Chekhov's Die Möwe in 1977 , directed by Bellocchio. In the early 1980s, Petraglia worked with Nanni Moretti , who was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 1986 for Die Messe ist aus .

In the mid-1980s, Petraglia's long-term collaboration began with Stefano Rulli. Her best-known works for Italian television include the Christmas series Mino - A Boy Between the Fronts and the thriller series Alone Against the Mafia , for which Petraglia and Rulli wrote the third to seventh seasons.

In addition, Petraglia and Rulli wrote the screenplays for numerous feature films, including for Marco Risi's Forever Mery (1989) and Il muro di gomma (1991), for Gianni Amelio's Stolen Children (1992) and Francesco Rosi's The Breath (1997). Petraglia and Rulli celebrated their greatest success to date in 2003 with their script for Marco Tullio Giordana's epic The Best Years , which tells the story of a Roman family over four decades. Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli received a nomination for the European Film Award for The Best Years .

Petraglia has won the Italian David di Donatello film award for best screenplay five times since 1991 .
