The Sankt-Peter-und-Paul-Kirche is the Protestant church in the village of Barleben in Saxony-Anhalt .

architecture

The core of the plastered hall church dates back to around 1350. In the years 1632 to 1636, the building was partially destroyed. Between 1681 and 1699 it was rebuilt in the baroque style. The nave has a rectangular floor plan and is characterized by large rectangular windows, each with a round window in the middle.

To the west of the nave is the church tower built on a square floor plan. In 1699 a baroque rustikaportal was built into the basement of the tower . On the portal, next to the coat of arms of the founder Erasmus Christian von Arnstedt and his wife Anna Elisabeth von Arnstedt , born von Haus, there is an inscription cartouche . In the years 1713/14, the tower was raised by adding the tail hood and the stepped tip.

Is one already in the time of on the northeast side of the ship late Gothic resulting sacristy . When the church was rebuilt at the end of the 17th century, the sacristy was given a barrel vault and raised over it. A half-timbered box belonging to the von Arnstedt family from the Renaissance period on the south side was redesigned in the Baroque style, but the remains of a Renaissance fireplace from 1610 have been preserved inside. The family coat of arms is on the fireplace. A pointed arch portal from the beginning of the 16th century on the sacristy is remarkable .

To the south of the church is the Barleben rectory , which is also a listed building .

Furnishing

The nave is spanned by a flat, coffered ceiling. On three sides of the ship there is a partly two-storey gallery , the length of which was reduced in 1968. The prieche for the royal outbuilding and the cloister dome , created in 1737, is located below the southern gallery . In the northern part of the choir is the ornate Magdeburg council chair , which is provided with slugs . In the east wall there is a colored glass window depicting Peter and Paul, in the south wall the motif of the Adoration of the Shepherds, created in 1922 by the glass painting company Ferdinand Müller from Quedlinburg .

The wooden pulpit altar with columns adorned with laurel probably dates from around 1699 . The decagonal baptism in the style of classicism, also made of wood, is much more recent .

The church stalls are neo-Gothic and have only been in the church since 1977/78. Before that it was in the Sankt-Katharinen-Kirche . In the church there is also a bronze bell made by Christian See from Magdeburg in 1735 .

The window between the box and the nave dates from 1699 and, in addition to a symbol, has coats of arms of the Erasmus Christian and Anna Elisabeth von Arnstedt families and their twelve children.

Various historical gravestones in the church itself or in the surrounding cemetery are remarkable. Two figure tombstones have been preserved in the nave. The older one was created for Joachim von Kastel , who died in 1634 , the other for Otto Friedrich von Quast, who died in 1714 . The tombstone for Christian Christophorus von Arnstedt, who died in 1680, is decorated with an ancestral specimen and a laurel wreath in the sacristy . The inscription tombstone for Johannis Hermans , who died in 1679, should be emphasized from the multitude of historical gravestones in the churchyard .

organ

The organ was created by Emil Reubke in 1876 . The organ front with round arches also dates from the same period . In 1936 Wilhelm Rühlmann from Zörbig pneumatized the organ.
