Sant Joan les Fonts is a Catalan municipality in the province of Girona in northeastern Spain . It is in the Comarca Garrotxa .

location

Sant Joan les Fonts is located in the middle of the volcanic landscape of the Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa on the Fluvià .

history

The town center was built in the 9th century. However, most of the structures were destroyed by earthquakes in 1427 and 1428.

Attractions

  • The former monastery of Monestir de Sant Joan les Fonts with the three-aisled Romanesque church was declared a national cultural heritage in 1981.
  • The Fluvià is spanned by a medieval bridge. It consists of volcanic rock and is mentioned in a document from 1247.
  • The Estada de Juvinyà is a fortified building from the 12th century.
