The Santa class is a container ship class of the Hamburg Süd shipping company . The ten-unit class was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. The lead ship of the class, the Santa Clara , was delivered in October 2010, the other ships in the series followed by June 2012. The owner of the ships managed by Columbus Shipmanagement in Hamburg is the shipping company Santa Containerschiffe in Bielefeld .
description
The ships, some of which are sailing under the Liberian flag and some under the German flag, are almost 300 meters long and can load around 7,100 TEU. 1,600 connections are available for refrigerated containers. The ships, which until the introduction of the new Cap-San class briefly had one of the largest capacities of refrigerated container connections in the world, were built specifically for the South America trip.
The ships are equipped with eight - cylinder two - stroke diesel engines from the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 8 RT-flex96C ), whose performance differs in the series. The engines of the first four ships in the series have an output of 45,760 kW . The engines of the fifth and sixth ships in the series have an output of 41,184 kW. The motors act directly on a shaft that drives the fixed propeller at the stern of the ships. The ships can reach speeds of up to 22.2 knots .
Four generators with an apparent power of 5857.1 kVA each and an emergency generator with an apparent power of 375 kVA are available for the power supply on board .
To improve the maneuverability during docking and casting off maneuvers or during turning maneuvers, the ships are equipped with a transverse thruster control system in the bow and in the stern.
The deck superstructures are in the rear third of the ship. There are 14 container bays in front of the superstructures, followed by four more. The ships do not have their own loading gear .
Hamburg Süd uses the ships in liner services between Asia , South Africa and the east coast of South America, as well as Europe and the east coast of South America.
On the route between Europe and South America, Hamburg Süd also offers freighter voyages lasting 49 days . A single and a twin cabin are available for passengers.
