The Sarju (also Saryu ) is a right tributary of the Mahakali (also Kali or Sarda ) in the Indian state of Uttarakhand .
The Sarju rises in the extreme north of the Bageshwar district . It initially flows about 50 km in a south-southwest direction through the Kumaon Himalayas . The river then turns to the southeast and flows through the district capital Bageshwar , where it picks up the Gomati from the right. The Sarju flows mainly in a south-easterly direction for the lower 65 km. The river forms the border between the Pithoragarh district in the north and Almora and Champawat in the south. Finally, after a total of 130 km, the Sarju reaches the Mahakali ( Sarda ) at Pancheshwar on the Nepalese border . 20 km above the mouth, the Ramganga meets the Sarju on the left.
