Savio Hon Tai-Fai SDB ( Chinese  韓大輝  /  韩大辉 , Pinyin Hán Dàhuī , Cantonese  Hon Daaifai ; born October 21, 1950 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Savio Hon Tai-Fai entered the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco . He made his temporary profession on August 15, 1969 and perpetual profession on August 15, 1975 . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Hong Kong on July 17, 1982 .

Savio Hon Tai-Fai received a Baccalauréat in Philosophy from the University of London and a PhD in Catholic Theology from the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome . He was Secretary of the Salesian Province for China , Rector of the Provincial House, Delegate of the Chinese Religious Province for Social Communication , Moderator and President of some chapters of the Salesian Province of China, Vice Provincial and finally Provincial of the Salesian Province for China. In addition, Savio Hon Tai-Fai was a delegate to some general chapters of the Salesians of Don Bosco. In 2002, Hon Tai-Fai was the moderator at the General Chapter of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

He was a professor of dogmatics and fundamental theology at the seminary of the Hong Kong diocese . He also held several visiting professorships at various seminaries in China.

On December 23, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Sila and ordered him secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . The episcopal ordination received his Benedict XVI. on February 5, 2011 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Dean Angelo Sodano and Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB . On September 21, 2013, Pope Francis confirmed him permanently as Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Savio Hon Tai-Fai was responsible for the translation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church into Chinese .

He has been a member of the Pontifical Academy of Theology since 1999, a member of the International Theological Commission since 2004 and a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity since 2012.

On behalf of the Pope, Archbishop Tai-Fai served as Apostolic Administrator sede plena of the Archdiocese of Agaña from June 6 to October 31, 2016 .

On September 28, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Greece .
