Schärlig [ (d̥ə / ɪm) ˈʒ̊æːrlig̊ ] is the name of the valley through which the Schärligbach flows in the middle part of its course, from the confluence of its largest source brooks in the Meisenbache to the Schlatt below the confluence of the Kurzenbach and the Schärligbade .

The Schärlig used to be a separate municipal department of Marbach and includes several hamlets and farms: At the top of the valley are the Wissebächli and the Meisenbach , flanked on the left by the Bergli and on the right by the Schärligberg , which bears the hamlet of the same name and the small town of Rüti to the north . Down the brook follow Büel and Grosshus , further down Färberhus and Neuhus with schoolhouse and chapel , then the settlement around the inn and former bath at the confluence with the Kurzenbache from the left, the old Schärligbad ; Finally, the courtyards in the Schlatt follow . On the western side of the valley lie the courtyards of the anterior , intermediaries and butt Short Bach , the Neumättili and Sonnsitli , on the eastern slopes the hamlet Stäldili and Binnzberg ; in the lowest part, the Guggchnubel separates the Schärlig from the Ilfis .

Names

The name Schärlig appears for the first time in a document from 1329 (Růdolfus dictus "inden am Schêrlig " ... possessionis mee site "inden am Scherling ") . Its origin is not entirely clear. It would be possible to transfer the plant name Schärli (n) g , which with variations in large parts of Switzerland and Bavaria denotes the Heracleum sphondylium . A derivative is also to OHG. Scari , scissors, forceps considered 'that would have been referring to the shape of the confluence of Kurzbach and Schärligbach. The singular of the name, its connection with a companion and the fact that place names of this pattern in the area were still used in the 14th century speak against formation with the place name suffix -ing- (en) 'with the people of the named' for the personal name Skerilo are not shortened to -ing .

The name then evidently spread and gave the name to the Schärligberg , the Schärligbache (older Wissenbach ), the Schärligbade (older also Kurzenbachbad ) and finally the entire community department. A Schärligsgut has been documented since 1531 (from then to Scherligss gůtt ) , today it bears the name Grosshaus (1730 [cop. 1800]: an Scherligs gut , now called Grosshauss or Stadellgut ) ; the Neuhaus is first attested in 1801 ( Neuhaus im schärlig) .
