Schönau is a district of the community of Gilserberg in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse and has around 200 inhabitants .

geography

The village is a good two kilometers north of Gilserberg in the basin of the Humbach , a tributary of the Gilsa that flows past the place to the west . Schönau is located within the boundaries of the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park on the southwestern edge of the Hemberg ridge . There rises a good one kilometer northeast of the village of 471  m above sea level. NN high dog's head . About one kilometer northwest of Schönau is the castle ruin Schönstein located in the local area on the western spur of 419  m above sea level. NN high Schloßberg .

history

Schönau was first mentioned in 1264 as Sconowe . When the community of Schönstein was formed in 1843, the northern part of the Schönau district with the Rommershausen ironworks was separated. In 1928, the district was enlarged by parts of the disbanded manor district of Forst Densberg .

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Schönau became part of the community of Gilserberg on December 31, 1971.
