The source streams of the Hardwasser have their source immediately northwest of Bellnhausen. The stream initially flows north past Bellnhausen, then turns to the south-east and takes in the Katzenbach flowing south of Bellnhausen.

history

Towards the end of the 13th century, the Lords of Bellnhausen built the small tower castle Bellnhausen , a moth , on a mound of earth surrounded by a moat . The associated small settlement Belnhusen was first mentioned in 1324 in Amöneburg cellar accounts. In 1324 and 1360 the Archbishopric of Mainz had tithe rights in Bellnhausen. In the course of time, the castle's farm yard became a respectable property, which changed hands several times after the Lords of Bellnhausen died out in 1556 through mortgages or leases. The old castle is mentioned as dilapidated as early as the 17th century and was demolished in the 18th or early 19th century; Only small remains of the wall and parts of the moat are preserved.

The estate was considerably expanded and expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1867 Bellnhausen became a Prussian state domain . In 1885 its district comprised 103 hectares of arable land and 25 hectares of meadows. At that time there were three houses with 33 residents on the domain.

The domain and the manor district were dissolved in 1928. The estate was incorporated into Itzenhain, and the previous district of Bellnhausen came mainly to the municipality of Itzenhain, but also to Winterscheid and Appenhain . As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Itzenhain became a district of the community of Gilserberg on April 1, 1972.
