The FK Astana-1964 ( Kazakh Астана-1964 Футбол Клубы; Russian Футбольный клуб "Астана" 1964 ) was a Kazakh football club from Astana , today's Nur-Sultan , the capital of the country.

history

Name development

The club was founded in 1964 as Dinamo Zelinograd (Динамо Целиноград). Like many clubs in the Soviet Union , the club changed names several times in its history. In 1975 it was first renamed Zelinnik Zelinograd (Целинник Целиноград). In 1992 the city was renamed, the association was called Zelinnik Akmola (Целинник Акмола). The 1994 renaming to Zesna Akmola (Цесна Акмола) only lasted until 1996, then the renaming followed. In 1997 the city was renamed Astana (= capital) as the future capital of Kazakhstan. The club name was changed to FK Astana (ФК Астана) for the first time in the same year , before the club was named Schenis Astana (Женис Астана) from 1999 to 2006 . From 2006 to 2009 it was again called FK Astana . In 2009 the club was called Namys Astana (Намыс Астана). From 2010 to 2011 it was again called FK Astana . In 2011 it was renamed again to FK Astana-1964 .

Kazakh championship

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, the club was a founding member of the Superliga , the top division of Kazakhstan. The team was able to celebrate their first title in 2000 when they won 2-0 in the playoff for the national championship against Access Esil Petropavlovsk tied on points . A year later the title was defended. Since at the same time the Kazakh Cup could be won for the first time by a victory on penalties against Irtysh Pavlodar , the double was celebrated in the capital. Since the cup competition was switched from the autumn / summer rhythm to the calendar year play, the club reached the cup final a second time in the same year. The title defense was missed by a 1: 3 defeat against Kairat Almaty . In 2002 the team reached the cup final for the third time in a row. A 1-0 win against Irtysh Pavlodar was the second cup victory in the club's history. In 2005, a 2-1 win after extra time against Kairat Almaty achieved the third win in the competition. A year later, the club reached the final again, but lost 3-1 after extra time against FK Almaty . Nevertheless, it was possible to celebrate in the capital, as the third championship in the club's history was achieved with four points ahead of FK Aqtöbe . Before the 2009 season, the club had to be relegated due to financial difficulties and has since played in the second highest Kazakh league until it was dissolved in 2014.
