Schillertswiesen is a district of Zell in the Upper Bavarian Forest in the Upper Palatinate , near the Hölle nature reserve .

history

It is believed that Schillertswiesen originated in the 8th to 11th centuries. In 1118 Scillingeswisen , consisting of hamlets and districts, was first mentioned in a document. Schillertswiesen then belonged to the Reichenbach district . The then ruler, Margrave Diepold III. von Vohburg had handed over his property to the Reichenbach monastery in 1118 . There is also documented evidence of a connection route between Roding and Regensburg in the Middle Ages .

During the Thirty Years' War in 1648, a Swedish squadron of horsemen is said to have marched towards Falkenstein to take the castle there.

In 1861 Schillertswiesen was mentioned again in a document. After the regional court in Falkenstein was dissolved on January 1, 1880, Schillertswiesen and Arrach, Au, Falkenstein, Michelsneukirchen and Unterzell were assigned to the Roding district office. In 1900 Schillertswiesen was an independent municipality with Mayor Alois Hahn (1 / 1900-12 / 1905). Georg Niebauer (1 / 1906–12 / 1911), Alois Dummer (1 / 1912– 12/1924), Josef Schiegl (1 / 1925–10 / 1945) and Niebauer from Neuhofen (1945–1948) followed as mayors.

At the end of the Second World War in April 1945, the deportation of the concentration camp prisoners from the Flossenbürg concentration camp to the Dachau concentration camp began . A death march led around 150 prisoners through Schillertswiesen to Gfung , Thallern, Ruderszell, Rettenbach , towards Wörth an der Donau . Those who could no longer walk or wanted to flee were shot by the guards. The completely exhausted people were driven by SS men with dogs and weapons. When a prisoner wanted to drink water from a pond between Schillertswiesen and Gfung , an SS man hit him with an object to force him to move on.

In 1948 the community Schillertswiesen was dissolved and assigned to the community Martinsneukirchen. Thanks to a citizens' initiative, Schillertswiesen became an independent municipality again. Mayor was Johann Dummer (5 / 1948–5 / 1966), followed by Richard Kulzer until 1971. In 1971 the community of Schillertswiesen was dissolved and assigned to the community of Zell . The districts of Mitterfeldhof, Hohenrad, Oberpoign, Sallach, Seigenbach, Starzenbach, Steinshofen, Unterpoing and Wirthswies belonged to the former community of Schillertswiesen. Since 1988 there has been another “Dorfkirta” in Schillertswiesen.

Village chapel

The construction of a village chapel began in the summer of 1999, and a chapel association was founded in the same year. The chapel could be completed in 1999 with the help of the local population. The chapel was consecrated on August 27, 2000.

societies

In 1899 the volunteer fire brigade Schillertswiesen was founded. The first fire station was built around 1902 and the second in 1971 . Due to structural defects, the third fire station was built between 1988 and 1990.
