Shimmering

The Schimmerich nature reserve is located in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The approximately 30 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1980 , extends between the local communities Friedewald (Westerwald) in the southwest and Derschen in the east. The state road L 285 runs not far to the west .
The protection purpose is the preservation of the wetland with its water surfaces and shallow water zones as a habitat for a species-rich fauna and flora. These include in particular endangered amphibians .
