Hasselichskopf quarry

The Hasselichskopf quarry nature reserve is located in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The 30,069 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1996 , extends northeast of the local community of Elkenroth . The state road L 288 runs not far to the west of the area and the L 286 to the south.
The protection purpose is the preservation of the former quarry area “Hasselichskopf” with its water and shallow water zones and with its steep areas as a habitat for rare animal species that are threatened in their population. These are in particular amphibians , reptiles and rare bird species.
