The GDR Schlager Competition was a national music competition in the GDR . It took place annually from 1966 to 1971.

procedure

The GDR hit competition was held in 1969 with two publicly broadcast preliminary decisions and with the involvement of television viewers. The 14 titles that prevailed out of the 28 titles presented in the preliminary rounds took part in the 1969 finals, which was hosted by the German Television Broadcasting Corporation (DFF) on April 19, 1969 in Magdeburg and broadcast on television. The selection of the final round from 1966 to 1968 was not open to the public.

history

The GDR's first hit competition was broadcast on June 15, 1966 from the Great Broadcasting Hall in East Berlin, exactly ten days after the last hit festival in Baden-Baden. The winners in the premiere year were Helga Brauer with Schlaf, my little Johnny and Rec Demont with Sag ja - both titles got the same number of points. The Magdeburg city hall was the place of the final rounds from 1967 to 1970 and also of the two preliminary rounds in 1969. On November 15, 1971, the foyer of the German television station in Berlin-Adlershof formed the simple setting for the swan song for this type of hit presentation in the DFF. With exactly six years of the GDR hit competition, the same number of years was reached here as the Baden-Baden Schlager Festival held from 1961 to 1966.

Record participants in these six years were Klaus Sommer , Ingo Graf and Michael Hansen , who each took part in the competition with four titles. Frank Schöbel and Chris Doerk celebrated the first major success of their careers by winning the competition in 1967 and set another milestone in 1969 when they won again as Chris and Frank . The winning title from 1968 also caused a sensation, at least within the GDR framework. It all just begins and that of 1970 Our summer trip .
