Details of the painting

The Ansitz Schlanderegg (also called Stainerhaus) is located in the market town of Schlanders in the Vinschgau in South Tyrol . The property is on the corner of Richtstrasse and Dr.-Heinrich-Vögele-Strasse south of Schlandersburg .

The imposing property with a half-hip roof , which was rebuilt in its current state from 1780, has a core from the 14th century. After Count Hendl expanded the building in 1695, they exchanged it for the Freienturm residence in 1779 with the clerk Sebastian Anton Stainer . Up to this point in time - and for a long time afterwards, the property was called "Hendlsberg" - a name that is no longer in use.

The new owner gave the building its current appearance. For a long time it was said that he allegedly also used prisoners as slave labor for the renovation work .

Schlanderegg is a rectangular three-and-a-half-story building with a curved gable and architectural painting that focuses on the windows, with those on the upper floors being painted more extensively than the ground floor. The painting came from Hyronimus Peteffi (1714-1805) from Schlanders. Peteffi had graduated from the Vienna Academy and had been a student of Paul Troger around 1750 . It is a three-dimensional architectural painting with decorations that hides a sophisticated iconographic painting program. The works of art show grimacing grimaces, busts of high-standing personalities, depictions of the four seasons, of professions, but also objects such as cups and garlands . Arcades are in front of the basement on the west and north sides . The area is bordered by a wall, with the house itself being integrated into the wall with its western outer wall. A courtyard adjoins the eastern narrow side, which can be entered via an originally beautifully painted baroque arched portal , the painting of which - column architecture, flower hangings and Mary with child - has suffered greatly over time. A modern residential building protrudes into the courtyard on the north side of the site.

Peteffi's signature reappeared on the east facade during the restoration in 1998. An inscription with red protruding Roman capitals dates the start of the work to the year 1780.

The interior of Schlanderegg also points to stately furnishings. There are hallways vaulted with stitches, central halls and a former house chapel. A hall on the second floor has a ceiling decorated with rosettes .

The building has been owned by the Stainer family since 1775.

Today it is a residential building, which also houses a restaurant with outdoor management (Cafe Stainer).
