Trögerhaus

The Trögerhaus (also called Trögerbauernhaus, Gärberhaus or Beckenpfister dwelling) in Schlanders in South Tyrol is located on Dammplatz a little south of the Schwarzadlerwirt. The different names reflect the different types of use over the centuries.

history

The age of the house can be dated back to the 14th century. It is first mentioned in 1338 as the house of the Mangold tanner . It was still being used by a red tanner in the 18th century. The reason for its use as a tannery was undoubtedly the course of the Schlandraunbach, which ran past the house to the west until the 18th century. In the second half of the 20th century it became the property of the Spitalstiftung, which used the property as a "Community welfare office in Schlanders". After the new construction of the “St. Nikolaus von der Flüe Citizens Home” on the property to the southeast, the house was no longer used from 1981 and was left to decay. At the end of the 1980s it was bought and renovated by the “Institute for Subsidized Housing”. Since then it has been used as a residential building.

Building

The house is a medieval, three-storey building in Romanesque style with a flat gable roof . An open, square-framed round arched door in the south wall leads into a small inner courtyard with the brick staircase leading to the upper floors. The partly heavily funneled windows come from the Gothic style of the 15th and 16th centuries. The stone-faced facades are built in the typical medieval style and cannot be found in this type on any other building in Schlanders. The southern wall of the house is somewhat exposed in the lower area, which is also unusual for a residential building. The masonry consists of regular stone layers of hewn dolomite with mortar joints using the Pietra-Rasa technique in the west and north façades, while the south and east façades have painted mortar joints. The window ledges, which are only slightly above street level in some places , indicate that here too - as with very many buildings of this age - the street level has been raised over the centuries by landfills. In addition to a few wooden balconies of unknown date, there are also huge protruding stone girders below some windows . In the house there is a room with a tiled stove , later beamed ceiling and beam. The outer walls are built all around at the same height, the front sides are lined in wood up to the roof gable . There is no attic.

The building has been a listed building since October 24, 1980 .
