The Schlawer Bahnen had been part of the Pomeranian State Railways since 1940 ; they opened up the southern part of the district of Schlawe in western Pomerania .

history

The district town of Schlawe had already become a junction for railways in the 1870s, but only crossed the northern half of the district. In order to connect the southern part around the town of Pollnow to the rail network, the district itself began to set up its own railway company, the “Kreis-Eisenbahn Schlawe – Pollnow – Sydow”. On December 21, 1897, this took a narrow-gauge railway from Schlawe with a gauge of 750 mm via Jatzingen to Pollnow into operation and on May 29, 1898 led it further south via Sydow to Breitenberg ; from Sydow it was reserved for goods traffic for 4.5 kilometers.

Finally, on November 1, 1898, a branch from Jatzingen to Natzlaff (seven kilometers) was added, which AG Kleinbahn Köslin – Natzlaff leased and continued in the direction of Köslin . As a result of various renovations in Pollnow (one branch to the state train station in 1910), the entire district's own rail network was now 65 kilometers long. The Krauss locomotive factory from Munich was the construction company for both small railroad companies.

The main line Schlawe – Pollnow was converted to standard gauge in 1934 and completely re-routed between Schlawe and Kusserow (8 km); this led to a shortening of the route by almost three kilometers and to the abandonment of the Marienthal and Ujatzthal stations . The standard gauge railway was put into operation on December 21, 1934. Because the Köslin – Bublitz, Belgarder Kleinbahn AG , as the neighboring railway was now called, remained in narrow-gauge operation, the Jatzingen – Pollnow section was laid out with three tracks for the trains coming from Köslin; In addition, they leased the Pollnow – Sydow line that had not been rerouted. The last section from Sydow to Breitenberg was closed by 1926 and dismantled by 1934.

The Kreisbahn ran the business itself for a long time. From 1920, its chief operations manager was also responsible for the operation of the Stolpethalbahn and the Stolper Kreisbahn . It was not until 1937 that the Schlawer Kreisbahn - now in the legal form of a GmbH - joined the Pomerania regional railway directorate. With effect from January 1, 1940, it lost its independence and became part of the Pomeranian State Railways .

The statistics for 1939 show a route length of 61.5 kilometers: a 40.3 km long standard gauge line Schlawe – Pollnow and a 21.2 km long narrow gauge line Natzlaff – Pollnow – Sydow. The following vehicles were available: two steam locomotives, two railcars, three passenger cars, three packing cars and 33 freight cars.
