- Old lock
The first lock chamber was built in 1896 using the embankment method and put into operation with the completion of the Dortmund-Ems Canal in 1899. It is 165 m long, 10 m wide and is closed with two mortise gates .
- New lock
Parallel to the old lock, another and wider lock chamber made of sheet pile walls was built in 1957 . It is 165 m long and 12 m wide
In the period from 2011 to 2012, the system was completely renovated and brought up to the latest state of the art. The lock chamber received new sliding gates and it was set up for remote control and monitoring by the Meppen control center.
