History

Greifenstein Castle , mentioned in 1397, was located on the summit , of which only ruins remain. At the south-eastern foot of the mountain was the associated Gut Greifenstein and a forester's house, which were demolished after 1960 as part of the border security measures on the inner German border . During this time, the mountain was no longer accessible to residents until 1989 due to its location in the protective strip.
