Reichertshofen Castle - town hall of the community

The Reichertshofen Castle is a former country princely castle in Reichertshofen in district Pfaffenhofen . In the meantime it was used as a school building and now as the town hall of the market and the administration community Reichertshofen .

history

The first buildings were built for the Lords of Reichertshofen as early as the 11th century. In 1310, a castle of Duke Ludwig IV., Later Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian , is mentioned. After Ludwig the Bearded of Bavaria-Ingolstadt had acquired Reichertshofen in 1405 , everything went well after his defeat by Duke Heinrich XVI. von Bayern-Landshut , in whose possession over. The rebuilt castle became the seat of the maintenance office of the newly founded Wittelsbach principality of Palatinate-Neuburg in 1505 after being destroyed during the War of Landshut Succession .

At the height of the early modern witch hunt, there was a wave of trials in Reichertshofen in 1589/1590, the outcome of which has not been recorded. After 51 of the 80 suspects had been executed in another wave of persecution between 1628 and 1630, the responsible nurse Jakob Kracker was sued in 1631 for infidelity and theft. Another execution for witchcraft occurred in 1645, while six suspects who were interrogated and tortured in 1661 were released. In any case, from the time of this witch hunt there is still a tower known as the witch's tower.

Even when the principality was ruled in personal union with Bavaria from 1777 , the nursing office initially remained. In 1802, Johann Baptist Welsch describes the division of the building into the Old and New Castle. Parts of the 17th century buildings were demolished at the end of the 18th century. It was not until 1808, when Pfalz-Neuburg was fully integrated into the Kingdom of Bavaria , that the nursing office was canceled. From 1906 to 1908 and from 1948 to 1954 there were extensions and renovations. The castle is now used as the town hall of the market and the administration community Reichertshofen . A referendum in 2018 rejected a new town hall and the reconstruction of the castle.
