history
Wolfgang Kahl proves that Schmiedebach was first mentioned in documents in 1071. The community reports in its chronicle that it was first mentioned in 1414. In 1656, the residents built a defensive wall around the church. 1662 was the first evidence of slate extraction.
In 1943 the Laura satellite camp was set up . From 1952 the village belonged to the Lobenstein district , in the same year an agricultural production cooperative was founded in the village . From 1961 to 1990 the place was in the restricted area of the inner-German border .
On April 6, 1994 the town was incorporated into Lehesten. The oldest parts of the church come from the Gothic . The nave towards the southwest was not added until 1656. In 1998 the church tower was renovated. In 2008 the last slate mine closed its doors.
