Gudrun Steinacker
Gudrun Elisabeth Steinacker (born January 3, 1951 in Düsseldorf ) is a retired German diplomat . Most recently she was ambassador to Montenegro from 2014 to 2016 .
Life
After graduating from the Archbishop's Suitbertus Gymnasium in Düsseldorf in 1969 , Gudrun Steinacker studied history , social sciences and Slavic studies from 1970 to 1977 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster and the University of Belgrade .
career
In 1978 Steinacker joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career test, was employed at the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1980 to 1982 and then at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York City , before returning from 1983 to 1985 was employed in the Foreign Office. Between 1985 and 1995 he worked at the Consulate General in Zagreb , at the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and at the Embassy in Norway . After a renewed position in the Foreign Office from 1995 to 2000, she worked in the Secretariat of the OSCE in Vienna as a training coordinator, at the Embassy in Italy , the Embassy in Russia and as permanent representative of the Ambassador in Bulgaria , during which time she was also a member of the Church Council German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Parish Sofia was. From September 2009 to August 2011 she was consul general in Novosibirsk . His successor as Consul General was Neithart Höfer-Wissing , who was previously envoy for press and public relations at the embassy in Russia.
From 2011 to 2014, Gudrun Steinacker succeeded Ulrike Knotz as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in North Macedonia . In this function, she also supported events organized by the German-North Macedonian Business Association. In 2014 she succeeded Pius Fischer as ambassador to Montenegro , while Christine Althauser was her successor as ambassador to Macedonia. Podgorica was her last post as an active diplomat. Even after her retirement, she was committed to the Balkans. She is one of the vice-presidents of the German Southeast European Society, received the Euronatur Prize in 2017 for her fight to preserve the natural area Saline Ulcinj in Montenegro and is the program director of the Western Balkans course for international diplomatic training at the Federal Foreign Office.
