Neithart Höfer-Wissing

Neithart Höfer-Wissing (born August 17, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German diplomat and since 2019 Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Turkmenistan , based in Ashgabat .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1975, Höfer-Wissing did his military service in the German Armed Forces and then studied history , Slavic and American studies from 1976 to 1986 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the Lomonossow University in Moscow .

In 1986 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career test for the higher service, was employed in the Political Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1988 to 1989 and then as a press attaché at the Embassy in Yugoslavia until 1992 . After a subsequent assignment from 1992 to 1995 in the Economic Department of the Foreign Office, he worked in the Political Department of the Embassy in Russia until 1998, before becoming Deputy Head of the Political Department of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (OHR ) was in Sarajevo .

After his return, Höfer-Wissing was Deputy Head of Division for East Central Europe , Norway and the Baltic Sea Council in the Foreign Office in Berlin from 1999 to 2000 and then until 2003 Deputy Head of the Political Department of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) in Pristina . After he was deputy head of the Political Department at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations Office and to other international organizations in Geneva between 2003 and 2006 , he was briefly Head of Division for Poland , Hungary , the Czech Republic , Slovakia , Austria and Slovenia , Benelux in the Foreign Office and then from 2006 to 2008 head of the Political Department of the International Civilian Office (OIS) in Pristina and at the same time in 2007 Head of the Political Department of UNMIK. Subsequently, between 2008 and 2011, he was envoy head of the press and public relations department of the embassy in Russia.

From October 2011 to January 2014 Höfer-Wissing was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Novosibirsk, successor to Gudrun Steinacker , who in turn became Ambassador to North Macedonia .

In January 2014 Höfer-Wissing became Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Uzbekistan , and in September 2017 he moved to Tajikistan in the same position .

The next change in post brought him to Turkmenistan as ambassador in 2019 .
