Swabian Turkey
The Swabian Turkey is the biggest German -speaking enclave in today's Hungary . It is located in Transdanubia and includes the German settlement area in the southern part of the Danube - Drava plateau in the counties of Tolna (Tolnau), Baranya (Branau) and Somogy (Schomodei).
After the Ottoman rule of the 16th and 17th centuries, which was dominated by the Turks , the area was populated with Slovak , Croatian and Serbian colonists as well as the Palatinate , Main Franconia , Hesse , Westerwald , Fulda , East Franconia and Bavaria as well as Swabians . This is how the name Swabian Turkey came about .
The culture of the German ethnic group in the region with its musical tradition was recorded from 1930 by Karl Horak , among others , while Rudolf Hartmann devoted himself to the folk drama traditions .
