The 104 kilometer long Schwalm cycle path leads along the course of the Hessian low mountain range Schwalm near the source in the Ulrichstein district of Helpershain to the Felsberg district of Gensungen . The long-distance cycle path runs on mostly quiet cycle and farm paths as a typical river cycle path without significant gradients through the Hessian Vogelsbergkreis and the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis . In 2010 it was expanded to a continuously navigable route.
Between Bischhausen and Treysa , work began in 2012 on the further construction of the A 49, which runs in the immediate vicinity of the cycle path. This is likely to have an impact on the touristic value of the route.
