course

The Schwarzach is a left tributary of the Schussen and arises east of Bodnegg near Baltersberg . To the south of this place, the 3.3 km long Baltersberger Bach coming from the north and the 2.1 km long Mohrhauser Bach emerging on the eastern edge of Bodnegg converge and create the Schwarzach, initially known as the Herzogenweiherbach .

This flows in a south curve far around Bodnegg, first moving to the south-east through the nearby Herzogenweiher , at whose outlet it is then finally called Schwarzach. At Ebersberg after the Mahlweiher, which is also in a nature reserve, it has already turned in a westerly direction, which it maintains as far as Vorderreute . From there it will be straightened and directed north through agricultural areas until shortly before Untertennenmoos .

Now in the west of Bodnegg near Obersulgen, it takes up the Eckbach from the right and then sets off in its old river bed with rich bank vegetation through fields and mixed forests towards the west-northwest. On its last kilometer, the Moosbach , which rises near Liebenau, flows in from the left , then flows into the lower course of the Schussen, which runs southwards to Lake Constance, near Gutenfurt, south of Ravensburg, from the left .

The Schwarzach, together with its longer upper course, the Baltersberger Bach, is 25.1 km long.

The Schwarzach is often referred to as the Grenzbach, as it was the border water between the Tettnang and Ravensburg authorities . Even today, the border between the Ravensburg district (mostly on the right) and the Lake Constance district (mostly on the left) runs from its western turn on and near it.
