Black lacquer and its surroundings (excerpt from the recording sheet of the land survey 1872 )

The Schwarze Lacke near Jedlesee , a part of Vienna's 21st Floridsdorf district , was a stagnant body of water and, during floods, a flowing tributary of the unregulated Danube near Vienna and is now a settlement area and local recreation area.

With the Viennese regulation of the Danube , the Schwarze Lacke lost its importance as a body of water with a length of around 10 kilometers. It was largely covered with rubbish and rubble and landscaped. Today the area is partly built up with residential buildings and residential complexes and partly preserved as a forest and meadow belt as a local recreation area , which is called Lorettowiese by the Jedleseers because of the Maria Loretto church next to it, and by the city of Vienna with Lagerwiese Überfuhrsstraße and then up to to the Marchfeld Canal with storage meadow at Schlossergasse . Between kilometers 3 and 4 of the Marchfeld Canal, the canal was widened, which slows the flow speed of the water and serves to settle the sediments because the Danube near Vienna is still a mountain river with numerous suspended matter. This sedimentation area corresponds to part of the former Black Lacquer and is a successful renaturation measure. In frosty times in winter, the settling area of the Marchfeld Canal is popular as a natural ice rink , especially since the possible penetration depth in an emergency is a maximum of half a meter.

Between the former main stream of the Danube and the Schwarzen Lacke was the Schüttinsel Schwarzlackenau , today an almost completely built-up settlement area. In the middle there is the Antonius Church and the Jedleseer Friedhof .

In the case of new buildings in close proximity to the former Black Lacquer, there is a conflict of interest between construction and maintenance. In 2009, the construction of the courtyard of the listed Jedleseer manor house was amicably settled with a mediation process between all parties involved.

The black coatings is for the Euro Velo 9 of Danzig to Pula the connection between the part of the district Strebersdorf and a green bridge the Donauuferautobahn near Tesla alley to Donauradweg at the New Danube .
