history

The name Schwimmbach comes from the Germanic "swinpa". “Swin” means strong, swift and “pa” was the stream. Already towards the end of the 9th century, Bishop Ambricho of Regensburg gave goods in Aholfing and Schwimmbach in exchange to Count Engilbert and bought property at Suuindpah from the noble Oto . The possession of the Regensburg church in Schwimmbach is no longer recorded in the duke's surable. However, wood kingdoms in Schwimmbach belonged to Castle Geltolfing .

Philipp Apian mentions a chapel in Schwimmbach in his local history around 1582. Until the beginning of the 19th century, Schwimmbach was a forest with only a courtyard and a small church next to it, where the princes heard mass and rested after the hunt. The village did not come into being until 1807, when Maria Leopoldine , the widow of Elector Karl Theodor, sold the forest flood stream for 90,000 guilders. When selling, areas ranging from a few days to 81 days were sold. The "Colonie" Schwimmbach was treated very disparagingly by the surrounding farming villages and called a convict settlement.

In 1811 the tax district Schwimmbach was formed, from which in 1821 the rural community of Schwimmbach in the Straubing district court emerged. It only included the district of Schwimmbach. In 1831, the Schwimmbach colony was still called a colony. The farm and the church still belonged to the Mengkofen patrimonial court . Many of the original farms disappeared over the decades through barter, marriage or sale. With very few exceptions, there are new farms and houses in Schwimmbach today.

In 1978, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Schwimmbach became part of the unified municipality of Leiblfing. The school and pastoral office were also relocated to Leiblfing. Many residents earn their living at the BMW Dingolfing plant .
