At the beginning of his career, Scott Clayton only played tournaments on the third-rate ITF Future Tour , where he has so far won 26 doubles titles. In 2015 he received a wildcard for the double field of the Challenger in Manchester . For the time being, this was the only appearance on the Challenger Tour. Only over a year later did he receive another wildcard for the tournament in Nottingham , which also ended with an opening defeat. He was able to win his first title with Jonny O'Mara in Izmir , when he profited from a task by his final opponents Denys Moltschanow and Serhij Stachowskyj and won the final without a fight .
Clayton made his debut on the ATP World Tour at the side of his partner Jonny O'Mara in Eastbourne . Equipped with a wildcard, he started in doubles, but lost his first game against Diego Schwartzman and Jiří Veselý in three sets. He also celebrated his greatest success together with Jonny O'Mara at Wimbledon . Due to an injury-related abandonment of his opponents Paolo Lorenzi and Adrian Mannarino , he made it into the second round on his Grand Slam debut after winning the first set. There was a clear defeat against the top seeded duo Henri Kontinen and John Peers . While he has so far not got beyond rank 689 in singles, he made it into the top 150 in doubles in the middle of the year.
