Scott Colby

Scott Colby (born December 21, 1953 in New York City ), and grew up there, is an American slide guitarist and dobro player. In addition to his unique style, he is known for his collaboration with Zoogz Rift and Henry Kaiser .

Musical career

Scott Colby grew up listening to pop and rock music in the 1960s. But he explicitly names three albums that opened his eyes and ears: Frank Zappa 's' Uncle Meat ', Captain Beefheart 's' Trout Mask Replica ' and Jimi Hendrix 's' ' Axis: Bold as Love '.

In the early 1970s he was a member of the Dada rock band Zobus in New Jersey . The founder and head of this band was Zoogz Rift . He has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 1977 . In the late 1970s he met Denny Walley , the then slide guitarist for Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart's Magic Band . Because Walley wanted to leave the Magic Band, he suggested Scott Colby for an audition as his successor. But this prelude never happened. Chris Cutler of Henry Cow , however, put him in touch with Henry Kaiser , with whom he met once. A close friendship developed and kept working together. Through Henry Kaiser he also met John French , the ex-drummer of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band , with whom he is also close friends.

In LA he performed in clubs in the 1980s with the bands Adjustable Julie , Little Triggers , and Pressure .

In 1987 he released his only solo album to date, Slide of Hand, on SST Records , an insider tip not only among guitarists. In addition to Willie Lapin ( bass ), Benn Clatworthy ( alto saxophone ), Jesse Ed Davis ( electric guitar ), Toby Holmes ( trombone ) and John French ( drums ), Bruce Fowler (trombone) and Henry Kaiser (electric guitar ) were guests ) With. The album was produced by Zoogz Rift .

In the 1990s he starred in Henry Kaiser's Eclectic Electric video with John French and Andy West . As part of a 'slide guitar workshop' he took part in the Frankfurt Jazz Festival (together with guitarists Henry Kaiser, David Lindley , Bob Brozman and Freddie Roulette , with Merle Saunders , keyboards, Hilary Hanes , bass and John Hanes , drums). He later recorded and performed with singer-songwriter Andy Robinson .

Scott Colby works as a documentation developer for a software company.
